I'm about midway through both of mine, which are:
Every Living Thing - Jason Roberts: Non-fiction, Natural Sciences.
Feels like it's a pretty approachable read for a slice of science history, exploring the path to modern taxonomy and how we got to where we are currently with trying to categorise and catalogue life. Manages to avoid being dry but putting emphasis on Linnaeus and Buffon as people and how their studies were influenced (for better and worse) by the culture and society they were living in.
I took some classes on phylogeny etc in the past and I did find it interesting how little Buffon was talked about in comparison to Linnaeus. I think Historie Naturelle was referenced a handful of times as well as his influence on Lamarck.
My Heart Is A Chainsaw - Stephen Graham Jones: Horror, Thriller.
Finding Jade's view of the world and seeing everything through the len of someone obsessed with slasher movies to be such an interesting point of view. The set up is indeed very 'slasher' - two fun-loving young people getting murdered in a lake - and there's the 'past murder at a now abandoned teenage camp being built over by the rich' plot going on too. I'm interested to see where this goes in terms of deconstruction of slashers.
