Terms of Use

Last updated 24 October 2026
Version 2026-10-24

These terms are the agreement between you and Anoncracy when you read, join, post, vote, moderate or stand for election here. By creating an account or using the site you accept them, along with our Privacy Policy and Content Policy.

Who can use Anoncracy

You must be at least 13 years old to create an account, or older where the law where you live sets a higher minimum, and old enough to agree to these terms where you live. Sign-up asks for your date of birth to check this. If you are under the age of majority there, a parent or guardian must agree to them for you. One person may hold one account; accounts that share an email inbox or a sign-up network may count as one person in elections (see How governance works).

Posts, comments, communities and profiles marked NSFW are shown only to members whose date of birth shows they are 18 or older. Members under 18, and anyone reading without signing in, never see them.

You are responsible for your account and for keeping your password private. Site admins also enter a code from an authenticator app when they sign in. Tell us through Report a problem if you think someone else has used your account.

Your content

You keep ownership of what you post. By posting you give Anoncracy a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, display, reproduce and distribute it on the site and in the features that show it (feeds, search of posts and comments, share cards and link previews, exports and the public moderation log), for as long as it is on the site and for the backup period described in the Privacy Policy.

You can post text, images, links and polls. Videos are shared as links and play from the site that hosts them; uploading video files isn’t available. A poll’s options and closing time can’t be changed once it is published.

Posts, comments and community membership are public by design. Your posting history stays visible on your profile; there is no setting to hide it. How votes are kept and shown is in the Privacy Policy. Ballots in moderator elections and recalls are secret. Direct messages and modmail are private to the people in them, apart from the cases the Privacy Policy describes.

Only post what you have the right to share. You are responsible for your content and for the consequences of posting it.

Communities and moderators

Communities set their own rules on top of the Content Policy, and their members elect the moderators who enforce them. Moderators act in their own communities only. Their removals, restrictions and rule changes are recorded in the community’s public moderation log, and you can appeal them. Moderators and candidates also agree to the Moderator Code in the Content Policy.

The site team can remove content, restrict accounts anywhere and act on reports that reach it, including in communities without moderators, to enforce these terms and the law.

What you must not do

  • Break the Content Policy or the law.
  • Use more than one account to vote, nominate, sign recalls or avoid a restriction.
  • Interfere with the site: probing for weaknesses without permission, scraping beyond robots.txt and our rate limits, or overloading it.
  • Run an automated account without declaring it as a bot in its profile.

Security researchers are welcome: see security.txt.

Ending your use

You can stop using Anoncracy at any time and close your account in Settings. We may suspend or end an account that breaks these terms; where we can, we tell you why and how to appeal.

Disclaimers and liability

Anoncracy is provided as it is, without warranties of any kind, to the extent the law allows. Content is written by members, not by us, and we don’t endorse it. To the extent the law allows, Anoncracy is not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for content posted by others. Nothing here limits rights you have under consumer law that cannot be waived.

Changes

When these terms or the Privacy Policy change in a way that matters, we say so on the site and ask you to accept the new version before you post, comment, vote or take part in governance again. Until then you can still read, change your settings, download your data and close your account. The version and date are at the top of this page.
